Documents Required
General Requirements
The following documents are mandatory for all Norway Work Permit applications, regardless of the visa subcategory:
Passport
- Original passport issued within the last 10 years.
- Valid for at least 3 months after your planned departure from Norway.
- Must contain at least two blank pages.
UK Residency
- Provide a UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.
Photo
- One recent colour photograph (not older than 6 months) that meets official specifications.
- Not digitally altered, full face visible, taken against a light background.
- Must be paper-clipped to the visa application form.
Application Form
- A signed printout of the Harmonised Schengen Visa Application Form from the UDI portal.
Travel Medical Insurance
- Coverage of at least EUR 30,000.
- Valid for the entire duration of stay and across the Schengen Area.
Proof of Travel
- Confirmed return ticket to the UK or onward travel if not returning to the UK.
Proof of Finance
- UK bank statements (last 3 months) showing current balance.
- If financially supported by a family member, submit:
- Their bank statements.
- Proof of relationship.
- Signed support letter.
- If sponsored by a person or company in Norway, submit the UDI’s official sponsorship form.
- Credit card(s) and latest credit card account statement.
Proof of Accommodation
- Confirmed hotel booking or evidence of accommodation in Norway.
- If hosted or sponsored, this must be documented using the UDI’s sponsorship form.
Employment or Academic Status in the UK
Depending on your situation, include one of the following:
- Employed:
- Recent, signed employer letter.
- Last 3 payslips.
- Self-employed:
- Signed letter from accountant, solicitor, or bank.
- Latest self-assessment from HMRC.
- Students:
- Recent, official letter from school, college, or university.
For Minors (under 18 years)
- Birth certificate.
- If travelling with one parent or alone:
- Consent letter from the other parent/legal guardian.
- Copy of both parents’ passports.
- UK school certificate.
- In case of sole custody:
- Birth certificate naming one parent, or
- Death certificate of other parent, or
- Custody court order.
Additional Documents by Work Permit Type
Skilled Worker
Includes: Skilled Workers with an employer in Norway
- Job offer from a Norwegian employer (must be full-time or minimum 80%).
- Educational certificates or vocational qualifications.
- Work experience certificates (if applying based on special qualifications).
- Authorisation or licence (if applicable to the profession, e.g. healthcare).
- If working through a staffing agency:
- List of assignments.
- Confirmation from each client.
- Staffing agency registration with Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority.
Seasonal Worker
Includes: Applicants working in agriculture, forestry, fish processing, restaurants, or tourism.
- Concrete offer(s) of full-time seasonal work or holiday stand-in position(s).
- NAV confirmation that no local/EEA candidates were available (except for agriculture/forestry).
- Proof of minimum wage guaranteed.
- Proof of eligibility to return home after completion of the work period.
Job Seeker
Includes: Recent graduates in Norway, researchers, and recognised professionals seeking work.
- Proof of completed studies or research in Norway (degree, confirmation from institution).
- Proof of sufficient funds: at least NOK 310,070 per year.
- No self-employment or business activity allowed.
- Proof of eligibility as a skilled worker (qualifications and/or vocational training).
Exchange Programmes / Cultural Work
Includes:
- Working guests in agriculture
- Employees of humanitarian, non-profit or religious organisations
- Artists, musicians, and performers
- Participants in the Norec or Erasmus+ programme
- Cultural workers (e.g. volunteers, creative artists)
General Requirements:
- Concrete full-time job or programme participation offer.
- Confirmation of exchange or programme participation (where applicable).
- Proof of subsistence (pay or organisation covering living expenses and return ticket).
- Pay and working conditions must align with local standards or collective agreements.
- Accommodation confirmation (if unpaid).
Remote Work
- Note: Remote work is not permitted on a visitor visa or tourist stay.
- You must hold a valid residence permit that explicitly allows remote work.
- Remote work for Norwegian clients/employers or value-generating activity in Norway is not allowed without the appropriate permit.
- Documentation must include employment details and permitted scope of remote work.
Seafarer
Includes: Work on Norwegian or foreign-registered ships operating in or between Norwegian ports.
- Seaman’s book (if applicable).
- Official letter from recruitment company including:
- Name and rank of applicant
- Ship name, arrival date, joining date
- Confirmation of full-time employment.
- Ship itinerary.
- For laid-up ships: additional details of maintenance duties and ship identification.
Self-Employed (Norway or Abroad)
Includes:
- Sole proprietors operating in Norway
- Contractors from abroad with Norwegian clients
Norway-Based Self-Employed
- Sole proprietorship registration (not applicable to limited companies).
- Detailed business plan showing commercial viability.
- Evidence that business activities require your skills.
- Minimum projected income: NOK 310,070 per year.
Abroad-Based Self-Employed
- Proof of ownership of the foreign business.
- Contract with Norwegian company.
- Proof of Norwegian client’s business registration.
- Assignment-specific details and duration.
Journalist / Media Personnel
Includes: Journalists or other media staff working for foreign outlets
- Employment or assignment letter from foreign media organisation.
- Proof of accommodation in Norway.
- Statement outlining assignment duration and purpose.
Religious Leaders / Teachers
- Master’s degree in religion or pedagogy (or justification if unavailable).
- Concrete job offer from a religious organisation in Norway.
- If unpaid, proof that the organisation will provide board, lodging, and necessities.
- Minimum pay of NOK 310,070 per year, unless religious exception applies.
Athletes / Coaches
- Confirmation from national sports association (e.g. Norwegian Football Federation).
- Full-time job offer from Norwegian employer (minimum 21 hours/week for musicians).
- Sport must be at top-level (e.g. top divisions).
- Minimum pay: NOK 310,070 per year pre-tax.
- Details of employment terms and expected participation level.
Employees on Assignments in Norway
Includes: Employees of international companies assigned to Norwegian branches and Workers employed abroad carrying out temporary assignments in Norway
- Employment contract with the foreign employer.
- Assignment contract with the Norwegian company.
- Proof of relevant qualifications.
- Norwegian client’s business registration.
- Assignment details including scope, location, and schedule.
- Company in Norway cannot be a staffing agency.
- Full-time work and standard pay conditions must be met.
Employees of Foreign Companies in Other EU/EEA Countries
- Proof of legal residence in an EU/EEA country.
- Employment with a company in that EU/EEA country.
- Contract to carry out a temporary assignment in Norway.
- Documentation proving nature and limited duration of the assignment.
- Proof of senior role or critical expertise (if company is establishing in Norway).
- Note: This category is exempt from residence permit but must apply for a residence card if staying over 90 days.
Diplomats / Military Personnel and Their Families
Includes: Diplomats, NATO or US military personnel, and support staff
- Confirmation of status from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs or Defence.
- No other employment is allowed.
- Spouses, partners, or dependent children intending to work must apply for a residence permit as a family member of a diplomat/military personnel.
- If not working, no permit is needed.
Photo Specifications

- Provide one recent colour photograph (taken within the last 6 months).
- The background must be light (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly visible.
- The photo must be of high clarity, with the face fully in focus.
- The image must show a neutral expression with the full face visible.
- No smiling, no sunglasses, and no hats or caps are permitted.
- Head coverings are only allowed for religious or cultural reasons, but the face must be fully visible.
- The photo must be printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
- Attach the photograph to the visa application form using a paper clip (do not glue or staple).
If the submitted photograph does not meet these specifications, the application will be deemed incomplete and the applicant
