Official Delegations / Seafarers / Lorry Drivers / Airport Transit Visa– Norway

Overview

This visa category applies to individuals travelling for specific professional or official reasons, including those who are part of an official government delegation, working as seafarers, engaged in lorry transport operations, or requiring an airport transit visa when passing through Norway on their way to a third country.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this visa category, applicants must:

  • Hold a valid passport or travel document.
  • Hold valid UK Residency.
  • Be travelling for one of the following purposes:
    • Official governmental delegation
    • Seafaring duties
    • Lorry driving on international transport routes
    • Airport transit through Norway to a third country

Processing Time

  • Visa applications can be submitted up to 6 months before the intended travel date.
  • It is advised to apply at least 4 weeks before departure.
  • The minimum processing time is 15 calendar days from the date the application reaches the Embassy in London.
  • Applicants in Manchester or Edinburgh should allow 3 additional working days for document transit.
  • Applications submitted with fewer than 15 days’ notice (without emergency documentation) may be rejected.
  • Delays may occur during busy travel seasons (Easter, July–August, Christmas), and incomplete applications may be delayed further.

Documents Required

Application Form

  • Signed printout of the Harmonised Schengen Visa Application Form from the UDI online portal.

Passport

  • Original passport issued within the last 10 years.
  • Valid for at least 3 months beyond intended departure.
  • Must contain at least two blank pages.

Photograph

  • One recent passport-sized photo (not older than 3-6 months, unedited).
    (Refer to the Photo Specifications section for full requirements.)

UK Residency

  • UK eVisa printout from UKVI with a valid share code.

Travel Insurance

  • Travel medical insurance valid for the full duration of travel and across the Schengen area.
  • Minimum coverage of EUR 30,000.

Proof of Travel

  • Reserved return ticket to the UK or proof of onward travel.
  • For airport transit:
    • Confirmed onward flight tickets.
    • Valid visa or entry permit for the final destination country.

Proof of Finance

  • UK bank statements in the applicant’s name covering the last 3 months.
  • If supported by a spouse or parent:
    • Their bank statements,
    • Proof of family relationship,
    • Letter confirming financial support.
  • If sponsored by an entity in Norway:
    • Official sponsorship form from UDI.
  • Credit card(s) and corresponding credit card statement(s) (if applicable).

Proof of Accommodation

  • Confirmed hotel booking or accommodation letter.
  • If sponsored accommodation is provided, include the official UDI sponsorship form.

Occupation Status (not older than 30 days)

If employed:

  • Recent, signed letter from the employer.
  • Last 3 months’ pay slips.

If self-employed:

  • Recent, signed letter from accountant, banker, or solicitor confirming self-employment.
  • Latest self-assessment form from HMRC.

If a student:

  • Recent, signed letter from school, college, or university in the UK confirming enrolment.

Minors (Under 18 Years)

  • Birth certificate.
  • For minors travelling alone or with one parent:
    • Original or certified copies of both parents’ passports,
    • Written parental consent,
    • British school certificate.
  • If sole custody applies:
    • Birth certificate naming one parent,
    • Death certificate of the other parent, or
    • Court ruling proving custody.

Purpose-Specific Documents

  1. A) Official Delegations
  • Letter from an authority in the applicant’s home country confirming their role in the delegation.
  • Copy of the official invitation from the intergovernmental organisation in Norway, or
  • Verbal note confirming official participation.
  1. B) Seafarers
  • Seaman’s book (if applicable).
  • Official letter from the recruiting company stating:
    • Applicant’s name and rank,
    • Name of vessel,
    • Port of arrival and joining date.
  1. C) Lorry Drivers
  • Official letter from the national association (union) of carriers stating:
    • Purpose, duration, and frequency of trips.
  • Written request from the partner company in Norway.
  • Driver’s licence for international transport.
  • Waybill (transportation document).
  1. D) Airport Transit Visa
  • Confirmed onward flight ticket to the final destination.
  • Visa or entry permit for the destination country.

Additional Notes

  • All documents must be submitted in A4 format only.
  • Do not staple, glue, or pin any documents.
  • Supporting documents must be dated within 30 days.
  • Originals must be presented at the time of submission.
  • Photocopies will not be returned.
  • Incomplete or non-compliant applications may result in processing delays or rejection.

Photo Specifications

  • Provide one recent colour photograph (taken within the last 6 months).
  • The background must be light (white or off-white) to ensure facial features are clearly visible.
  • The photo must be of high clarity, with the face fully in focus.
  • The image must show a neutral expression with the full face visible.
  • No smilingno sunglasses, and no hats or caps are permitted.
  • Head coverings are only allowed for religious or cultural reasons, but the face must be fully visible.
  • The photo must be printed on standard photographic paper (camera print).
  • Attach the photograph to the visa application form using a paper clip (do not glue or staple).

If the submitted photograph does not meet these specifications, the application will be deemed incomplete and the applicant will be required to provide a compliant photo before the application can proceed.
